Malaysia's first HR training built for the Future Workforce

SME Hiring Masterclass
From gut-feeling to system

A two-day intensive masterclass for SME founders, directors, and hiring decision-makers who are tired of bad hires, repeated interviews, and the quiet cost of guessing your way through every recruitment.

Built from 10 years of real recruitment experience — hiring for 80+ companies, including Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong and Singapore, across every level from production operators to senior executives.

If you've hired recently, this might sound familiar

You've been told
"you'll just know when they're right."

Every SME founder we’ve trained has lived through some version of this — and every one of them is now also dealing with a workforce that doesn’t respond to how Malaysian SMEs used to hire.

A target symbolizing a mission with an arrow hitting the bullseye.

The workforce has changed. Hiring methods that worked five years ago don’t work now — and most SMEs are still using them. This masterclass is built for the reality you’re hiring into today — not the one you remember.

The 4-step method

Hiring is not a vibe
It's a four-step system

Most SMEs hire on chemistry — a candidate “feels right” in 30 minutes, and three months later you’re back at zero. Replace the feeling with a system you’ll use from your very next recruitment.

Step 01 - Attract

Right pool

JDs that pull the right people, not the most applicants. The shift from “casting a wide net” to casting the right one.

An illustration showing the second step of filtering candidates in a hiring process.

Step 02 - Filter

15-min screen

Structured criteria that filter 80% of candidates in 15 minutes — before you’ve spent a single billable hour on the wrong person.

An illustration representing the third step of selecting candidates in a hiring process.

Step 03 - Select

Beyond chemistry

Evaluate on role fit, culture fit, and growth potential — using frameworks that survive the post-honeymoon-period test.

Step 04 - Place

Right seat

A great salesperson is not a great manager. Place every hire in the seat where they’ll compound — not where they’ll plateau. By the end of two days, your team will have replaced “we’ll know when we see them” with a hiring system that holds up six months after the hire.

Fionn Tan

Founder & Head of Business, Z Talent Solutions

Fionn is one of the few Malaysian recruitment specialists who has hired across the full workforce spectrum — from production operators on the factory floor to executive-level roles — across more than 80 companies. As recruiter for Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong and Singapore, she sourced at standards that don’t tolerate gut-feeling decisions.

She then took that discipline home to build hiring systems for Malaysian SMEs — the founders, directors, and managers who don’t have a 50-person talent team, but still need to make every hire count. Along the way, her team placed 450 contract workers in a single week — the kind of operational scale that only comes from a hiring system that actually works. And in the last few years, she’s built hiring playbooks specifically for the Future Workforce — the generation that ghosts interviews, negotiates from day one, and evaluates companies as hard as companies evaluate them.

Why we include it

Before you can hire the right team, you need to know who you are

The WorkPlace Big Five Profile is one of the most respected workplace personality assessments globally — peer-reviewed, research-grounded, and used by Fortune 500 companies, executive coaches, and senior HR leaders. Unlike Myers-Briggs and many SME-favourite tools, the Big Five measures behaviour that actually predicts how people work together.

But here's the real reason we make it part of the masterclass: the best founders we work with don't hire people who are like them. They hire people who complement them — who fill the gaps they don't see in themselves, and balance the team's blind spots.

Icon depicting three vertical bars of increasing height, representing growth or progress.

Your profile maps you across five workplace dimensions — Need for Stability, Extraversion, Originality, Accommodation, and Consolidation — and tells you who you naturally are, and what your leadership traits actually look like in practice. From that baseline, you'll learn the specific qualities to look for in the people you hire next — the ones who push the success of the team, not just the success of the hire.

You'll also know who you shouldn't hire — even when they look good on paper. Especially when they look good on paper.

Every participant takes the assessment before Day 02. Worth RM 400 — yours to keep, and to use as the foundation for every hiring decision after.

What you walk away with

A hiring playbook
your team can run without you

Not a certificate. Not a slide deck. A working hiring system your team can use the very next time a role opens.

01

The 4-step hiring framework — Attract, Filter, Select, Place — with templates and scorecards for each stage.

02

A structured interview kit — questions, scoring rubrics, and red-flag checklists you’ll use from your next interview onward.

03

Your own WorkPlace Big Five Profile — so you know your leadership traits, what qualities to look for in your next hire, and who not to hire even when they look good on paper.

04

Direct access to Fionn and the ZTS team for follow-up questions — because the next tricky hire will come, and you shouldn’t have to face it alone.

Not a junior trainer with a script.

Yes — this is one of the reasons we built it. Gen Z and younger Millennials don’t respond to the way Malaysian SMEs have hired for the last two decades. The Attract module covers writing JDs that actually pull this generation, the Filter module handles modern candidate behaviour, and the Offer & Onboarding module addresses the retention expectations that look different from anything you’ve hired against before. This is what “built for the Future Workforce” means in practice.
